Your First 30 Days Selling Worn Underwear: A Beginner’s Plan
You don’t need hundreds of listings to get started. Here’s a realistic plan for your first month, week by week.
Starting out as a seller can feel like a lot at once: what to sell, what to charge, how to find buyers and how to stay safe. The good news is you don’t need to work it all out on day one. This plan breaks your first month into four manageable weeks, so you can build a profile buyers trust, make your first sales and learn what works for you.
If you haven’t set up yet, start with our step-by-step guide on how to sell used underwear online, then come back here.
Before you start: decide what you’re comfortable with
Every seller is different, and you don’t need to offer everything to do well. Think about what suits your lifestyle, your time and your boundaries. Popular starting points include:
- Worn underwear: briefs, boxers, thongs, jockstraps and more.
- Worn socks, especially after the gym, a long shift or a run (see our guide to selling worn socks).
- Gym kit, sportswear and other worn clothing.
- Custom orders, where a buyer asks for something specific, like extra days of wear or an item worn during an activity.
Beginner tip: start with one or two types of item. It’s easier to manage orders, learn what buyers want and improve your listings without taking on too much at once.
It’s just as useful to decide what you won’t do. You never have to accept a request because a buyer offers more money.
Week 1: Set up a profile that builds trust
Your profile is your shop window, and it’s the first thing a buyer checks before messaging you. On Scent From Me every member has passed an ID and age check, so buyers already know they’re dealing with a real adult. Your job is to show them what you’re like to buy from.
- Pick a seller name that has nothing to do with your real name or other social accounts.
- Say what you sell and what makes you different: maybe you’re a gym regular, a runner or on your feet all day at work.
- Explain how ordering works and roughly how long you take to post.
- Say which custom requests you’re happy to take, and which you aren’t.
- Add a profile photo. It doesn’t have to show your face, and many successful sellers never do.
Keep everything honest. Don’t promise anything you can’t deliver; buyers leave reviews, and a good reputation is worth more than one extra sale. Before you post any photos, read our guide to staying safe and keeping your privacy so nothing in the background gives away who or where you are.
Week 2: Create your first listings
Aim for three to five good listings rather than twenty rushed ones. A strong listing answers the buyer’s questions before they ask:
- The style, brand, size, colour and fabric.
- How long it will be worn, and whether extra days are available.
- Anything that makes it stand out, like worn to the gym or through a long shift.
- How you post it and roughly how long it takes to arrive.
Take photos in natural daylight against a tidy background. You can show an item laid flat or being worn, but only you can appear in your photos and nothing explicit is allowed. Every photo is checked before it goes live, so it pays to get it right first time.
For pricing, look at similar listings and start somewhere in the middle. Account for packaging, postage and your time, and charge more for custom orders and extra days of wear. Our guide to pricing worn underwear goes into more detail, and custom orders explained covers add-ons and price menus.
Week 3: Get seen by buyers
New sellers often list a few items and wait. The sellers who do well stay visible:
- Post regular updates to the feed so followers see you’re active.
- Check the wanted board, where buyers post exactly what they’re looking for, and get in touch when you can help.
- Reply to messages quickly and politely. A fast, friendly reply often wins the sale.
- Share your profile link on the social accounts you use for selling, never your personal ones.
Pay attention to the questions buyers ask and which listings get favourited. That tells you more about your audience than any guesswork. If you want more detail, Seller Pro adds analytics like who’s viewed your profile, your most favourited listings and your busiest times.
Week 4: Review what’s working
At the end of the month, look back honestly:
- Which listings got views, favourites and messages, and which got nothing?
- Which items actually sold, and what did buyers say in their reviews?
- After packaging and postage, which items made you the most money for your time?
- Which descriptions or photos could be clearer?
A popular listing isn’t always your most profitable one, so focus on what works for you, not just what gets the most attention. Then make small changes: refresh weak photos, adjust prices and add more of what sells.
Spotting scams before they cost you
Most buyers are genuine, but it pays to recognise the warning signs early. Be cautious if someone:
- Sends a screenshot of a payment instead of a payment you can see in your own account.
- Says you must pay a fee to “release” or “unlock” your money. On Scent From Me, buyers pay you directly and we take 0% commission, so there is never a fee to receive a payment.
- Asks for your password or a verification code. No genuine buyer, and nobody from Scent From Me, will ever ask for these.
- Pressures you to send extra items or photos beyond what you agreed.
- Asks for personal details they don’t need, like your real name, workplace or home address.
- Threatens to share your private information unless you do what they say.
Only post an item once the payment has arrived in your own account. Keep your conversations on the site, so there’s a clear record of what was agreed. If anyone makes threats or behaves suspiciously, don’t pay them or engage further: keep the messages, then block and report them. Our team reviews every report.
Treat it like a small business
If you want a steady income, approach selling like a small business. Set realistic goals, keep a simple record of sales and costs, and remember that tax may be due on what you earn. In the UK, HMRC’s £1,000 trading allowance can cover small amounts of side income, but check HMRC’s guidance or speak to an accountant about your situation.
There are no guaranteed earnings. Sellers who stay consistent, honest and responsive tend to build regular buyers over time, but results vary from person to person.
Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to make a first sale?
It varies. Some sellers sell within days, others take a few weeks. A complete profile, a few good listings, regular feed updates and quick replies all help buyers find and trust you sooner.
How many listings should I start with?
Three to five good listings is plenty to start. Quality matters more than quantity, and a few strong listings are easier to keep up to date.
Do I have to show my face?
No. Many successful sellers never show their face. Just check your photos for anything else that could identify you, like reflections, post or the view from a window.
How do buyers pay me on Scent From Me?
Buyers pay you directly using the payment method you choose, and your payment details are only shown to a buyer once you accept their order. Scent From Me takes 0% commission on sales.
Is it legal to sell worn underwear in the UK?
Generally, yes, for adults selling their own worn clothing. You must be 18 or over and the items must be yours. See our guide is selling worn underwear legal? for the details.
