This explains what personal information Scent From Me collects, why, who we share it with, and your rights. Scent From Me is based in the United Kingdom and open to members worldwide, so we apply UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) as our baseline standard for everyone, wherever you live.
1. Who is responsible for your information
The data controller is Scent From Me Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17553631). Registered office: Unit A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall Industrial Estate, Mildenhall, Suffolk, IP28 7DE. Contact: support@scentfromme.com.
2. What we collect
Account details: email address, username, password (stored securely, we can't see it), whether you buy or sell, and your confirmation that you are 18 or over.
Profile: anything you choose to add, such as a photo, bio, general location, country, seller details (like build or hair colour, only if you choose to show them), what you offer, what you're into, and your preferences.
Seller payment details: the payment methods you accept (shown on your profile), and the payment link or instructions you give so buyers can pay you. The link and instructions are only shown to buyers on orders you've accepted.
Orders and delivery: when you order something, the name and postal address you give for delivery. Only you and that order's seller can see it, and it's deleted as soon as you mark the order received (or the order is cancelled or declined). If you tick “save for next time”, a private copy is kept just for you to fill in future orders, and you can delete it at any time.
Usage: when you were last active (to show “Online now”, which you can turn off), and views of profiles, posts and listings. Sellers see view counts and analytics, and Seller and Seller Pro members can see the usernames of members who viewed their page (“Who's viewed me”). Turn on Browse privately in Settings and you're counted but never named.
Technical: the cookies needed to keep you logged in, and basic server logs (such as IP address and browser) kept by our hosting providers for security.
Visitor count: to count how many people visit, we keep a one-way scrambled code made from your connection and browser, the pages-viewed count and your country. It can't be turned back into your IP address, no cookie is used, and we don't use it to track you anywhere else.
Approximate location: while you're logged in we keep your latest approximate location (roughly the nearest town and country, worked out from your internet connection, never GPS). It's only used so Pro sellers can choose to hide from members near them. Nobody else can see it, and we only keep the latest one.
Identity checks: every member's ID and age check is done by our verification provider, Didit, which holds your ID document and selfie. We keep the result (passed or not) and the date of birth shown on your ID, so we can confirm you're over 18. If Didit is unavailable we may ask you to send photos of your ID and a selfie instead; only our admin can see them and they're deleted as soon as your check is decided. We don't otherwise keep copies of your documents, unless the law requires it. Your date of birth is never shown to other members.
Some things you share, such as details about your body or sexual orientation on your profile (buyers and sellers can both add these), may be special category data. We only process it because you have chosen to make it public on your profile, and you can remove it at any time in Settings.
3. Why we use it
To run the site and your account (our contract with you): showing your profile and listings, orders and delivery, messaging, notifications, memberships and games.
To keep members safe (our legitimate interests and legal obligations): age checks, filtered words, reports, blocking, suspensions and preventing fraud.
To improve the site (our legitimate interests): understanding how features are used.
To email you about your account and activity. You can turn off activity emails in Settings. We don't send marketing without your permission.
4. Who can see what
Only logged-in members can see profiles, listings and posts. The one exception is a listing link a member chooses to share: anyone with the link sees that listing's cover photo, title, price and the seller's username, unless the seller has “Who can see me” switched on. Your email address is never shown to other members, and your delivery name and address are only shown to the seller of that order. Messages are only visible to the people in them (and to us if they're reported or we need to investigate a safety issue).
5. Who we share it with
We don't sell your information. We use trusted providers to run the site, who only process it on our instructions:
Supabase: database, logins and photo storage.
Vercel: website hosting, and the approximate location (town and country) worked out from your internet connection.
Didit: ID and age checks.
Sightengine: automatic checks of photos for explicit content and for faces that may belong to someone under 18.
Resend: sending emails.
Your browser's push service (such as Apple, Google or Mozilla): delivering phone and browser notifications, if you switch them on.
postcodes.io and OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): turning a town, postcode or ZIP code you type in into an approximate location, for example when a Pro seller sets an area to hide from.
Our payment provider for seller memberships, once card payments are set up.
Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, wherever in the world you're using Scent From Me from. Where they do, we rely on UK-approved safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations. We may also share information with the police or regulators where the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. When you close your account we delete or anonymise it within 90 days, except where we need to keep some records for longer, for example reports, suspensions or anything needed for legal reasons (usually up to 6 years).
7. Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete or download your information, object to or restrict how we use it, or withdraw consent where we rely on it. Email support@scentfromme.com. We'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
8. Cookies
We only use cookies that are needed for the site to work, such as keeping you logged in, and we remember on your device that you've confirmed you're 18. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
9. Changes
We'll update this policy when things change and show the date at the top.
